Album Review: Hip Life is Dead by Christ Image Christ Image did what many gospel artiste wish they could do. Christ Image’s debut album “Hip Life is Dead” just as the name suggest comes out strongly against contempory Hip Life music which is quite dominate in Ghana. The 12 tracked album which features Counter Attack, Regardless, Too Deep ,OBJ, RS Key and most importantly the Holy spirit has “Reaching the masses with the truth” as its core theme. Prior to the release of the album a few singles and videos had already been made accessible to the general public. Singles like “Who be the Don”, “Hip Life is Dead”, “Letter to Sarkodie” among others had generated mixed reactions from the general public. I remember very well when Christ Image told me to write an article on “Letter to Sarkordie”,I actually resisted. But come to think of it, on listening to the single over and over, I felt it’s what the world is looking for. To begin with, content wise, Christ Image did what Lecrea would call involving the culture, the content if the album has a perfect blend of twi (A local dialect in Ghana) and English. Songs like Ghana Maakye speaks to the conscious of every Ghanaian. Going through the lyrics over and over again I realized everything was on point, the message was properly communicated, and now, the big question, why should Christ Image tell us Hip Life is Dead? Isn’t that supposed to be the work of artiste like him? Infusing every genre of music with the word of God. He answers all this in a verse in “Hip Life is Dead” “there ain't nothing wrong with music except folks abuse it whenever they do it am not bothered about the style or the beat but the content that you spit anytime you speaking”. In chemistry wise, Christ Image blended very well with all those he featured on the project, actually that is one characteristics of CI that you just can’t do away with. He featured Tresh of Counter on “I’ma keep Preaching”,Igtheous of Counter Attack was also featured on “Devil Stay Away” I personally thought Igtheous gave that song the variety we’ve all been waiting for .And the all-important “Great Commission” one of my favorite, I personally like how each member of that crew adds the song to their project and I guess it would be on Regardless #MOT project. This is one of the few album I’ve heard intermissions, believe me, they were really deep. For the critics not compromising on Ephesians 5:11 which says “Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them” I personally think “Hip Life is Dead” ,does a good job by exposing the inappropriate content which is normally found in the Hip life genre of music but also it comes all out to condemn the Hip Life genre of music in a whole which I stand to be corrected. But in spite of all these, this album is a masterpiece, the engineers, producers and everyone who contributed in any way have done a splendid job. By @nkg116
