Why do we keep failing our temptations? (@jaysmoke)

How many times have you found yourself thinking about something that you know you shouldn't be thinking about. 😂 I certainly have been in that situation severally, be it that hot girl you fantasize about, that savings money you about to use to place a bet, that cheating you about to do in your bece exams, that girl you about to beat up because they flirting with your guy, that church member you about to gossip about, etc. We've all been there and unfortunately, we've all at some point failed at handling temptations the right way.

As an unbeliever, this shouldn't be worrying, but if you are a believer, saved by grace, you can't continually be failing at every temptation. God actually expects us to overcome these temptations. The Bible says that He makes a way for us when we are tempted. And He will not allow us to be tested beyond what we can bare. So our heavenly Father who knows our strength and weaknesses and knows the exact amount that will break us says He will not let us be tempted beyond that point. So why do we still fail and how can we overcome this temptations?

The truth of the matter is, every temptation begins in our mind before it's manifested physically. The reason we fall everytime we are tempted is because we haven't mastered our minds yet.

If we REALLY want to overcome a particular temptation, we need to arrest it in our minds before we act. Alot of times we find ourselves thinking about doing something, it's at that moment that we have to instantly switch our mind to something else. Eg. You are thinking of watching porn, before you touch the laptop, switch your mind to something else like food or watch a movie. The moment you change your thinking, act on it. For the more seasoned believer, the easiest way to overcome temptation is to switch to speaking in tongues. But don't just sit there speaking in tongues, get up, walk about whilst speaking in tongues. This blocks out every thought you were having and shifts your focus completely.

The reason why I said, IF WE REALLY want to overcome temptation, is simply because overcoming temptation is an intentional act. It won't happen automatically because you smart or pretty. You've gotta WANT to overcome that temptation and then you act on it.

We always will have a choice. We serve a faithful God and He will make sure of it. So the real question is, do you truly want to overcome this temptation or not?

Shalom 🙏🏾
