ICIE created a lot of interest with "Rise" a quote based, motivational book published in November last year. The combination of rap and literature is not a new one. One of the reasons we love hip hop is the way rappers can tell revealing stories.

It's an art that allows you to be transparent and very real. But what happens when even hip hop music isn't free-form enough to get your message across? Well if previous efforts are anything to go by, the answer to that question is: write a book.

The Good Life, a book by the artist Trip Lee a few years ago was a genuine surprise. To have a rapper so familiar through his music presenting us with something new by utilising the written word, proved the naysayers wrong, by being very good read. It told the story of how we can overcome our obsession with materialism and finding real substance in our lives.

Fast forward a few years and rappers are at it again. Andy Mineo recently revealed he's writing a book and his label mate and grammy award winning artist Lecrae, has his book Unashamed available for preorder later this year. With London lyricist Icie's book, Rise released late last year, the transition from rap to literature looks like it will continue well into 2016 and beyond.

While we are on the subject of Icie and self reflection, the North London lyricist has been offering his insight on recent events. Fellow rapper Jahaziel’s recent announcement on his faith has provoked dismay amongst his fans and the gospel community. Contemplating last weeks announcent and reactions Icie had this to say.

“Everyone has a life journey that they must embark upon that is distinctly different from the person next to them. It got me thinking; we should never be afraid to take the detours we feelled to take in this life, because we all have alternative endings to our story. But before casting your‘without sin stone’ open your eyes to the possibility that this detour in his journey could be exactly what is needed to bring him to his bespoke alternate ending.”

He ended by saying “Whether it be stopping music or changing careers or even relocating half way across the world, never be afraid to come off track to be on track in the eyes of God.
